MUSIC FOR ADULTS

Music therapy sessions are specifically designed to reach individual, and/or small group goals based on the specific needs of the client or group. These goals may include, but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety and stress reduction

  • Awareness of self, others, and environment

  • Increased sense of control over life through failure free activity.

  • Emotional intimacy with loved ones and families through shared music experiences

  • Memory recall, cognitive or processing abilities

  • Management of mood and emotional states

  • Non-pharmacological management of pain and discomfort

  • Structure which provides rhythmic and continuous movement as an adjunct to physical therapy

  • Structure which provides elements of the speech such as rhythm, pitch, stressed and unstressed syllables as an adjunct to speech therapy

  • Social interaction

The length of a session may depend upon the attention span or needs of the client. Sessions are a minimum of 30 minutes upwards to an hour. Sessions incorporating instruments such as the electronic keyboard or guitar may run longer than a typical music therapy session.
